1919-09-29 C.W. and wife spend weekend with son Ernest and daughter Orpah at 533 ½ south main street. So this would have been six months after Lavina (Ernest’ first wife) had died. On the 1920 U.S. Census they were all living at 532 Arcade Avenue, so my guess is that after Lavina died, Ernest’s sister Orpah moved in with him for a while, and they soon moved back in with their parents.

1900 U.S. Census Summary                          1910 U.S. Census Summary *

1920 U.S. Census Summary

* The summary lists Germany, but the actual document looks like this: Brazil is crossed off with a S.W. written in.  This will probably forever remain a mystery, but there seems to be a

possibility that Emma was born before her parents arrived in Brazil.  On the same census is listed 1881 as her year of immigration, but this is not shown for the other children.  Her father’s obituary says that he came to Brazil in 1871 and shortly after married Angelica.  Emma was born in April 1872.  So it’s uncertain exactly where Emma was born.

According to the census’s, in 1910 she was living with her father, and in 1920 she was living her sister, Theodora Teckenbrock.

Evidently Emma never married.  She worked as a housekeeper for Otto Hess and his wife in Wabash, Indiana for 38 years.  Although she was the oldest of the thirteen Hausmann children, only a brother, William J. Hausmann and a sister, Theodora  Teckenbrock, survived her.

Notes taken at Deb’s house including dates of birth and death
Son of Christian and Anna Hausmann
Crippled.  Raised birds.  Lived in Tampa, Florida

The following are notes from some 6 page source I got at Deb’s house

Ernest’s body was shipped from his home (1305 E. Sligh Ave) to Urbana, IN the day after he died, 3/2/56.  There was no funeral service in Tampa.

He had no church affiliation.

The name listed on his death certificate was E.B. Hausmann, but she had a different address (1105 ½ Swann Ave., Tampa).  The author of these notes (June) suspected a relative or former wife, but I believe she was his current (2nd) wife (probably divorced – see below).

Occupation at death: Rabbit farm owner and processor.

Belonged to “Pentzo Asturiano Club”

SSN: 266-44-7174

He had no insurance.

Lived in Tampa for 31 years, according to a telephone conversation with a lady from Jennings Funeral Home in Tampa.  Same lady said there was one heavily underlined sentence of the report which said “divorced and no children.”

He was buried in St. Peter’s church cemetery in Urbana with his first wife who died in 1919 and with his parents, Christian William and Hanna (Anna) Eiler Hausmann.

His family lived in Elkhart between 1907 and 1920.

His first wife was Lavina Miller, born 6/6/1898 and died 3/3/1919.  The author guessed her death may have been the result of “the landmark influenza epidemic” known as the worst in the U.S.  His grandmother Eiler died the very next day. .

1919-09-29 Spends Weekend with Parents and Brother

1919-09-29 C.W. and wife spend weekend with son Ernest and daughter Orpah at 533 ½ south main street. So this would have been six months after Lavina (Ernest’ first wife) had died. Each of the tree articles for the same weekend mention that Christian and his wife were visiting from Urbana.  On the 1920 U.S. Census they were all (including their younger son Theophil)                                                         living at 532 Arcade Avenue, so my guess is that after Lavina died, Christian and his wife moved to Elkhart and Ernest and Orpah moved back in with their parents.

1906-06-05 Indiana Deaths – died 6/5/1906 in Michigan City, Indiana; Age 63.

Mammero, Ella Laura (Buck / Hausmann)

2nd wife of my great grandfather (0.000) - tree; wife of Charles W. Buck, 2nd wife of Christian William Hausmann; mother of Martha E. (Porch) Buck; daughter of Christopher Mammero and Christina (Mammero) Gruenberger.

Birth: 6/22/1875 in La Porte, Indiana
Death: 4/20/1955 in Michigan City, Indiana
Marriage: 12/31/1934 or 1936

Timeline

Beginning with her obituary, we know that she was born on 6/22/1875 in La Porte, IN.  We also know that her given name was Mammero.  We know that she died on 4/20/1955 in Michigan City, IN.  We know that her most recent husband was Christian W. Hausmann.  Finally we know that she had a surviving daughter, but all we have for a name is Mrs. Clarence Porch.

From the 1900 census we know that she was still unmarried at the age of 24 and still living in La Porte County, IN.

It appears that she is included in the 1910 census for Charles W. Bucks.  There are many matches: Bucks instead of Buck, daughter with the right name (including middle initial) the right age; Ella the right age; the right city; the right birthplace.  So between 1910 and 1920 this couple evidently divorced.

From the 1920 census we know that was now divorced, probably from someone named Bok or Buck because she has a 16 year old daughter living with her and her mother named Martha Bok.  We also know that she was born in June 1875.

From Christian Hausmann’s obituary that she married him on 12/31/1934, but she is listed as Mrs. Ella Nickels.  Since no other husband is mentioned in Ella’s obituary, it seems that her name was Nickels when they were married.  So it appears she went from her given name of Mammero to a married name of Buck and then to another married name of Nickels and ended up with the married name of Hausmann.  So the missing piece would be a husband with the last name of Nickels.

There was an Ella Buck who was born between 1872 and 1876 who I believe was another person.
